Statistics: Many people still reject the idea of global warming and often say that it is a myth and that humans are not actually impacting the warming of the earth. However, in the past few years, that gap of uncertainty has diminished greatly with new found statistics and global trends that have showed that humans are certainly linked to the issue. For example, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased by 31%. Scientists have found no other reason to believe that anything natural on earth would have caused such a change. In addition, there are clear records of hurricanes and their strength increasing by about 2 fold in the past 40 years, and this span of time just so happens to be when the spurt of technology was at its highest.
The rate of global warming has sped but by about 3 times in the past thirty years, again most likely due to carbon emissions that humans have been notorious for in the past few decades. And on the topic of carbon emissions, it is said that the United States is responsible for the highest levels of carbon emissions when compared to others countries across the globe. That number to be exact is 80% in terms of the amount of fossil fuels burned per year. So it becomes quite clear that the government in the USA needs to do something about this issue instead of disregarding it. If our country alone made significant improvements in fossil fuel usage, the heating of the earth would likely slow down drastically. Not only this, but our actions would set a great example for others to follow.
One fact that just might blow your mind is that humans actually put CO2 in the air at 1000 tons per second, and due to this unbelievable number, more than 1 million species across the planet have already gone extinct. If that isn't enough of a let down, researches have determined that by 2050, there is a chance that anywhere between 15 and 37% of currently existing plant and animal species would die as a result of warming. In the arctic, ice sheets are melting so fast that it is estimated that roughly 400,000 square miles of it is already gone for good, and by 2030, there will be no more glaciers in the Glacier National Park. In terms of damages, statistics have shown that Global Warming has costed the United States close to $100 billion in the year of 2005 with the wreckage that Mother Nature brought upon the nation.
One can deny the theory of global warming, however they cannot deny the statistics, no matter how hard they wish to do so. Numbers do not lie, and the increasing evidence that organisms on this planet will one day become extinct because of our own faults is downright messed up. I think that we need to take a good long look at those numbers and then take a good look in the mirror. Things like this just cannot be tolerated.
