Politics and Global warming One of the main reasons that Global Warming is ceasing to be solved is because of politics in the United States. The reason behind this is that politicians are the ones who essentially make the laws in the country. They are the ones that make the bigger decisions regarding issues of our country and those regarding the issues that are more far reaching. Some of the problem lies within the 2 main parties that the United States has created. Those parties being Democrats and Republicans.
The fact is that most democrats are said to support to idea of global warming and scientists that have proven that it is indeed a problem in society. The majority are concerned about the lasting impacts it may have in the future, and so they wish that scientists have more of a say in policies that are put into place by the government. Barack Obama was one of the few presidents who actually addressed global warming and made it a point to inform the public and his officials about it. The newly elected Donald Trump, however, has other ideas. He states that he does not exactly support the idea of global warming and there are many assumptions to be made to his words. Republicans are conservative by nature, and so obviously there is going to be more in this party who refuse to accept the fact that 97% of scientists on earth have essentially assured that global warming is happening. Acceptance is so difficult for many because it often links to back to the economy.
Business owners, for example, are reluctant to even consider the other side because they know for a fact that they are contributing to global warming. Industries that run on oil make money by burning fossil fuels and so they will do whatever they can to stand their ground. Researches believe that the media is in part to be blamed for the denial among many citizens in the United States. Popular figures like Donald Trump, a republican, make a statement on their disagreement of global warming and suddenly the internet blows it up even more. Much of the public today is informed of things through the outlets of the media and so these arrogant statements made by republicans are then spread and amplified to the point where they convince users that Global Warming is a hoax. There is good news though. In more recent years, more and more voters are buying into the issue as more evidence is released. Pope Francis has made his stance on Global Warming and it has really helped the growing and much needed support for it. I think that at some point business owners and politicians need to put global issues before economic issues. There needs to be change and if that is going to happen it is going to be put into law by the government.
