This flyer will be posted throughout city streets and neighborhoods to inform people of what may happen in the future if such pollution continues. My intentions with the creation of this flyer was to in a way scare people into realizing what exactly they are doing to the earth. I decided to execute my public service announcement in this particular way because I put myself in the people's shoes. I knew that if I were walking around in a city and I saw this flyer poster on a pole, I would certainly stop by to take a look. I didn't want to put too many pictures on the flyer because it would attract less people as they wouldn't want to strain to see the small images.
In terms of my thought process in creating this flyer, I started off by brainstorming what the most major of effects would likely occur as a result of global warming. I ended up narrowing it down to 4 effects, which was not a handful, but still sufficient enough to capture the message that I wanted to convey. Sticking with the theme of effects, I printed words on the top that read "Earth in 100 years..." largely in bold in hopes that it would spark curiosity to the average city man going about his day. I proceeded to make 4 bullet points describing each of the pictures, with the facts being strategically placed to the left of the flyer, keeping in mind that people are more comfortable reading left to right. As a finishing touch, I added the black border to give the flyer a little bit of pop.
When analyzing the chosen pictures, I made my decisions based on what I believed would evoke the most emotions from the viewer. For example, in the image depicting the city of Paris being flooded, the emotion that is intended to be felt is worry. By portraying a global landmark being affected by climate change, there is bound to be a rise in the level of public awareness because people can put into perspective just how serious the problem is if they can relate somehow. When choosing the image that was going to represent the storm, I decided on the tornado because I know from first hand experience that I have had nightmares of tornadoes before and they definitely evoked fear. Now as for the drought picture, I was surfing the web when this one in particular caught my eye. It was of a dead cow that clearly was deprived of water, and this photo really moved me because of the sadness that I felt seeing his skin dried so much. This flyer hopefully will be a motivation for humans to take action.
