A: Hello, welcome to the podcast! I’m here with Kyle, who is studying...
K: Global warming.
A: Global warming, yes.
So, could you talk about the basics of global warming for all the people on my blog?
K: Well yeah, pretty much there are different kinds of gasses in the air called greenhouse gasses. And these gasses actually absorb a lot of heat from the sun. They don’t allow it to escape. What happens is that the rays from the sun come through the atmosphere but they can’t escape due to these greenhouse gasses and they stay within the earth and these greenhouse gasses of course spread heat around the earth. And because of that, there’s gonna be a lot of droughts happening. And the droughts are going to be causing a lot of problems throughout the countries throughout the world. Such as, different insects that usually thrive in warm environments are going to be now coming into places that usually don't get these insects, so the spread of things like malaria by mosquitoes is going to be prominent...
A: So that’s the threats associated with it as well?
K: Yeah. And the droughts, as I was saying, [are] going to be killing off the crops, and it’s going to make things a lot harder for people, in general.
A: Okay, perfect. Yeah, that’s not a very good thing at all. It’s a big issue.
K: So is there anything you want to talk about about your topic?
A: Well, the basics of deforestation, just for the people on your blog, is that if you cut down en masse it causes bad effects. In short, in summary. And... that leads to endangered animals, less resources of course for the people who live in the forest. And most importantly, the connection between the two especially in the Amazon rainforest, because it’s really big acts as a carbon sink because the trees absorb that CO2 and prevent global warming from getting worse. It helps mediate those effects. So what’s really important is that deforestation is stopped or halted...
K: ...or limited.
A: Limited, yeah. That’s the word I was looking for, thank you. So that helps stop global warming and also helps all the other effects associated with deforestation.
K: Do you have any solutions?
A: Solutions? Yeah!
K: ...to deforestation?
A: I’m thinking somewhat like, keep planting trees. Make sure the trees on your property are doing well. Volunteer at places like parks and nature reserves to keep those places healthy and good. And to just spread awareness, I feel. Because I’m talking about like these bad effects that are coming with [deforestation] and the fact that there are people living in places like the rainforest who... who’s lives are going to be... basically ruined by deforestation because they’re going to lose their homes and stuff. I feel like if people knew about that they’d care more. So just, y’know, awareness.
K: Yeah, I think the same goes with global warming. ‘Cause a lot of politicians... they don’t... they always stray from this kind of issue.
A: They don’t focus on global issues?
K: Yeah, it’s usually the country that they’re worried about and so they leave these global issues for another time. And they never really get to it. And so that’s become kind of a problem that’s occurring within several countries actually.
A: Alright.
K: And so it’s really important that they get the memo, and so we have to spread awareness about [global warming] as well.
A: Cool! Alright. Thanks for your time!

Global Warming and deforestation go hand in hand in many ways. Global warming is in fact caused by deforestation, and so really, cutting down trees is derogatory in relevance to both.
